The paints I use are a mixture of ordinary emulsions, artist's acrylics, and specialist scene-painter's acrylics. These are suitable for most indoor paintings, and give a matt finish. For murals outdoors I will use the best proprietary outdoor paint for the colours required and the situation. For high-humidity areas like bathrooms, swimming pools, etc., or places where the painting is likely to suffer wear, I finish the mural off with a coat of acrylic varnish. This dries to a slight sheen but is very durable, and can be wiped clean. The un-varnished painting can also be wiped clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth, but will not take the scrubbing that the varnish can.
